Osteoporosis Gets Actress Teed-Off
Youth'n® your life, Rally with Sally

Osteoporosis Tees-Off Actress Sally Field Half of all American women over 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis in her lifetime. That fact has Actress, Sally Field really teed-off and driving for a solution. Sally is spearheading a national effort, Rally With Sally, to educate and inspire women to fight the fragile bone disease.

“Osteoporosis and low bone mass is a national health issue, threatening more than 44 million Americans age 50 and older,” Field says. But once detected, the disease is treatable and even reversible.

“Any woman can find herself at risk for osteoporosis at some point in her life,” says Field, whose Bone Mineral Density (BMD) test after a year on a prescription medication showed that her progression of osteoporotic bone loss had stopped. “But we can start to shift the odds in our favor by rallying together and challenging ourselves and each other to take care of the health of our bones.”

Field is urging women to learn more about the Rally With Sally For Bone HealthSM campaign, sponsored by Roche and GlaxoSmithKline, which encourages women to protect themselves against fractures so they can remain active and reduce their risk of a debilitating injury. Visit campaign’s Web site, www.BoneHealth.com for tips on how women can keep their bones healthy by
  • getting a BMD test,
  • getting adequate calcium and vitamin D,
  • exercising regularly, and
  • taking medicine as directed by their doctor.
“My generation (America's Baby Boomers) has pushed for so much change to improve the lives of women, and today the biggest hurdle many of us face is our health,” says Sally Field, the two-time Academy Award winner who has fought for women and workers’ rights both on and off screen.

“We’ve never been willing to sit back and take it — and that includes osteoporosis too. I’m asking women to take action by talking to their doctors and joining me in this commitment at www.BoneHealth.com.”
